Experience the classic, savory essence of a Philly Cheesesteak in a convenient, high-protein bowl. This recipe features perfectly browned ground beef and caramelized aromatics served over a bed of fluffy rice, finished with a generous layer of melted provolone cheese. Utilizing the Maillard reaction for depth of flavor, this bowl delivers a hearty, accessible meal that captures the spirit of the traditional sandwich without the need for a hoagie roll.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb (450g) Ground Beef (85/15 ratio)
1 large Bell Pepper, sliced into strips
1 medium Onion, thinly sliced
1.5 cups White Rice, cooked
1 cup Provolone Cheese, sliced or shredded
2 tbsp Beef Broth (non-alcoholic)
Salt to taste
Coarse black pepper to taste

Instructions

Cook the white rice according to package directions and keep warm.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until it begins to shimmer.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart, and sear until deeply browned.
Add the sliced bell peppers and onions to the skillet with the beef.
Sauté until the vegetables are tender yet crisp, allowing them to absorb the beef fat.
Stir in the beef broth to deglaze the pan and add moisture.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and immediately top the beef mixture with the provolone cheese.
Cover for 1 minute until the cheese is melted and creamy.
Divide the cooked rice into bowls and serve the beef and vegetable mixture over the top.

Notes

Ensure the skillet is nice and hot before adding the beef to achieve a proper crust. If you prefer extra spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes during sautéing. For a lower-carb option, swap the white rice for cauliflower rice.
