Indulge in a classic comfort food staple with this easy slow cooker Salisbury steak. Tender beef patties are slow-cooked in a rich, savory gravy infused with fresh mushrooms and onions, creating a melt-in-your-mouth experience. Perfect for busy days, the low-temperature braising method ensures the meat remains succulent and flavorful. This hearty dish is elevated by the deep, earthy umami profile of the mushroom gravy, making it an ideal cozy dinner served over mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
1 large yellow onion, sliced
2 cups cremini or white button mushrooms, sliced
1 packet onion soup mix (non-alcoholic, beef or vegetarian based)
2 cups beef broth (low-sodium)

Instructions

Shape the ground beef into four individual oval patties, ensuring they are roughly equal in size and thickness.
Place the sliced onions and mushrooms at the bottom of the slow cooker insert to create an aromatic bed.
Arrange the beef patties on top of the vegetables in an even layer.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the onion soup mix and the low-sodium beef broth until fully combined.
Pour the broth mixture evenly over the beef patties.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
Once time is up, gently remove the patties to a serving platter and serve topped with the thickened mushroom onion gravy directly from the slow cooker.

Notes

Ensure you verify that the onion soup mix is free from alcohol ingredients. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can whisk in a teaspoon of cornstarch slurry during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
